Vince graduated from high school in 1983 and received the B.S. degree in chemistry from West Virginia Wesleyan College (Buckhannon, WV) in 1987.

Vince spent the Summer of 1987 as an Analytical Researcher at the Procter and Gamble Company in Cincinnati, OH. Using laboratory robotics, he successfully automated a physical paper testing method under the direction of Dr. Jim Abbott. In the Fall of 1987, he joined Dr. R.E. Dessy's Lab Automation and Instrument Design research group in the Department of Chemistry at Virginia Tech (Blacksburg, VA). Vince satisfied the requirements for the M.S. degree in chemistry in August 1990 following the completion of his thesis research involving fiber optic polarimetry. A Ph.D. project involving Solid-Surface Room-Temperature Phosphoresence (SSRTP) is in the final stages of completion.

During the course of his graduate academic career, he has been employed at Virginia Tech as a teaching assistant for analytical, general, and physical chemistry laboratories and as an academic advisor for the Liberal Arts and Sciences Department. Additionally, Vince has been an instructor during sessions of the A.C.S. Laboratory Automation short course under the direction of Dr. Ray Dessy. He has been a member of the Optical Society of America and the Society for Applied Spectroscopy. In May 1995, Vince accepted a professorship in the chemistry department at Muskingum College. Sponsored research projects have included: a WWW-based Expert System (the Infrared Detective), Solid Phase Microextraction (SPME) for Gas Chromatography, Bioremediation of Diesel Fuel-contaminated Soil, and Techniques for the Extraction of Hydrocarbon Pollutants from Soil. In addition to his science-related interests, Vince's extracurricular activities include archery, hunting, fishing, and surfing the internet.
