Mathematical Approach

If there were no noise in the experimental spectra and we assume that the lineshape function for each component does not vary from spectrum to spectrum in the series then we could just choose several data points in each spectrum and find a perfect solution by solving simultaneous equations. In reality, however, there is noise and the lineshape functions vary which renders this approach useless. Traditional curve fitting programmes also give poor results.
